Latest assignment I completed in my 3D animation class: make a ball with a tail act as much like a squirrel as possible.
This was tricky for me at first; I reeeeally
wanted to go all out and do a proper squirrel with limbs and stuff, but that was out of the question because I don't have access to a good realistic squirrel rig/that was totally outside of the assignment parameters. Plus, I'm still developing the kind of patience required to do good 3D stuff. I kept wishing this was 2D so I could just draw
it instead of pose it. Posing 3D characters is such a pain
Anywho, I ended up doing a quick 2D rough take on this that greatly helped me nail down the timing (especially for that flicking tail). After that, doing it in 3D was just a case of projecting the 2D footage and matching the 3D model to my drawings
I forgot to add follow-through to the tail on the second turn, but other than that am decently satisfied with this animation
My instructor seemed to think mine had a really good "squirrely" feel to it, and most of my class liked my tail flick.
Made in Maya
Rig was provided by instructor
PS: For some reason the green color of the bg seems to change. I have no idea why it does that X_x
